Two pages are telling Google they do not exist
Why it matters
This was the first item on the report of 20 August and it is unchanged. It is still the most valuable thing on this list.
Every page carries a setting called Canonical URL, and it has one purpose: to tell Google “this page is a duplicate, index that other address instead of this one.” Left empty, the site fills in the page’s own address, which is the right answer almost every time.
On these two it names a page that has been deleted. So each one is asking Google to drop it in favour of an address that returns an error — which means asking to be dropped altogether. Both pages themselves are live and working perfectly. It is only this one field that is wrong.
Where to change it
Strapi → the page → SEO → Canonical URL — clear the field
| Page | Canonical URL currently says | What that address does | Change it to |
|---|---|---|---|
| /connect/ | Page not found | Clear the field | |
| /sectors/perimeter-security-and-check-points/ | Page not found | Clear the field |
The third one from last time is done. The 20 August report listed Plan Your Travel alongside these two. It no longer needs anything from you — a change we released on 9 September makes the site ignore the old insecure address it was pointing at. You can leave that field exactly as it is.
Why the same change did not fix these two. The check we released ignores a Canonical URL that points at a different website. Both of these point at addresses on your own site, so it lets them through. We are extending it — that work is listed at the bottom of this report — but clearing the two fields fixes today’s instance in about a minute.
